     Here are 7 things you need to do IMMEDIATELY when moving to North Bay Village.

     An Introduction To Island Living: All The Utilities You Need In North Bay Village 

    Are you relocating to North Bay Village soon?

    Whatever you do, don't move into your new home without electricity, running water, and gas for cooking!

    Needless to say, these utilities aren't OPTIONAL — they're your means to SURVIVE!

    And don't worry — setting everything up will be as easy as pie!

    For electricity, create or log in to your existing account at the  Florida Power & Light Company (FPL)  website and apply for service at your new Morningside address. 

    New account holders need to submit their Social Security, Driver's License, Social Insurance, or Tax ID number, the new service address, and the connection date, and existing FPL customers only need to advise the disconnection date (old address), re-connection date,  and complete service address for a service transfer.

    To give you an idea, a deposit of $25 (minimum) and other initial set-up fees may be charged upfront, whether you're a new or existing customer.

    For those who use natural gas for cooking, hook up your service with  TECO Peoples Gas .

    After confirming availability, submit the necessary IDs and connection date (new customer) or advise the disconnection date, the complete address of the new home, and preferred service transfer date (existing customer) — see how easy that is!

    Deposit fees may be based on the home's square footage or equal to twice the average monthly bill, and you may need to settle a connection fee before the service connection.

    To conclude your utilities, check the water and sewer availability on the  Miami-Dade Water & Sewer  website.

    Once confirmed, new customers must create an online account and deposit $50 for water, $50 for sewer, and a non-refundable $45 connection fee, and existing owners must also settle any outstanding balance before service transfer.

     (2) 

     The Perks Of Technology: Setting Up Your New Home's Connectivity 

    Nowadays, home utilities don't only comprise water, sewer, electric, and gas.

    In fact, our Google search tells us that technology subscriptions are now a NON-NEGOTIABLE in home ownership, including reliable internet and cable services!

    So, if your North Bay Village house is still "unconnected" to the Web (or your favorite TV series), assess your household's internet usage and entertainment needs and find the perfect internet-cable package from esteemed providers like  Comcast Xfinity  and   AT&T !

    After choosing a provider and a bundle, apply for a new service by submitting your complete address and proper IDs online or in person at the nearest store, or if you're an existing Comcast or AT&T customer, request a service transfer as soon as you pay any remaining balance on your account!

    It's also best to check with your provider if you need to settle deposits, activation/installation, and equipment rental fees upfront to avoid any "surprises."

    Otherwise, expect these charges to reflect on your first bill.

     (3) 

     Florida-Certified: Applying For A Driver's License In North Bay Village 

    Feel like you're missing something?

    Check your wallet — you may not have a Florida driver's license yet!

    You see, part of moving to a new state or country is legalizing your residency, and if you're a Florida newbie, you can't make your move OFFICIAL without one!

    Not to mention that your Florida driver's license is a REQUIREMENT within 30 days of establishing residency and your "thumbs up" for driving on Florida roads without the police at your tail!

    To apply, visit the nearest  Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV)  or any local office offering driver's license services and submit the necessary documents to get your Florida driver's license.

    Click on the applicable residency status to know which documents to have on hand when you apply:

    •  U.S Citizen   
    • Immigrant 
    • Non-Immigrant
    •  Canadian 

    The initial Florida Class E license, including a learner's permit, is $48.00, a commercial driver's license (Class A) is $75.00, and an ID Card fee is $25.00.

    Applicants with a current or previous driver's license from another state, country, or jurisdiction need not take the Drug and Alcohol courses, Class E Knowledge exam, and Florida Driving tests.

    However, the Vision and Hearing test is still a must!

    On the other hand, if you have an existing Florida driver's license, notify the DMV of your new address for an updated driver's license to avoid breaking the law.

    And don't forget — you'll also need insurance to title and register your vehicle(s) within ten (10) days of establishing residency.

     (4) 

     The Path To Success: A Brief Introduction To North Bay Village Schools  

    Since North Bay Village is a revered, family-friendly community, I'm sure most of you are moving to your new address as a family, and schools will be part of your "relocation" checklist!

    But if you're still searching for the best North Bay Village school for your child, don't sweat it!

    Since you're now part of this thriving community, you're privy to a premium collection of schools catering to elementary, middle, and senior high school education in and around North Bay Village!

    Choose from educational institutions like Treasure Island Elementary School, Phyllis Ruth Miller Elementary, Morningside K-8 Academy, The Cushman School, and more! — thanks to North Bay Village and surrounding communities like Morningside, Edgewater, and Miami Beach, your child has public, private, and charter school options in their midst!

    It's 2024, people — unless you're a newly naturalized U.S. citizen, there's no excuse for NOT exercising your right to vote!

    Not to mention that voter registration is the ONLY way to have a say within your new community, city, and country!

    So, if you're a United States citizen over 18 who meets all the requirements to become a registered voter (but still isn't one), submit your application with the proper IDs and documents through the  Florida Department of State  or the  Miami-Dade County Elections Department  online, by mail or in person at the Elections Department or any Elections Branch office!

    To give you an idea, any current and valid identifications with a photograph and signature (e.g., Florida Driver's License, United States passport, etc.) should suffice.

     Think Green, Act Green: Recycling And Waste Management In North Bay Village 

    Alongside the rest of the communities, North Bay Village encourages residents to participate in recycling and proper waste disposal initiatives to contribute to the sustainability and cleanliness of Miami.

    So, if you're keen on earning a rightful spot within North Bay Village, take it upon yourself to observe, follow, and keep to heart your new community's strict guidelines on recycling and waste management, including its solid waste, "bulky" garbage, and recyclables schedules!

    If not, well, you can just kiss the beauty and cleanliness of North Bay Village GOOD BYE!

     To help, here are the current solid waste, "bulky" garbage, and recyclables schedules as advised by the North Bay Village Public Works Division: 

    •  Single Family Homes Garbage/Trash/Recycling collection (North Bay Island) -  Mondays & Tuesdays 
    •  Single Family Homes Garbage/Trash/Recycling collection (Treasure Island) - Tuesdays & Fridays 
    •  Multi-Family Buildings Garbage/Trash/Recycling collection (Treasure Island, Harbor Island) - Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays  
    •  Single Family Homes Bulk Trash collection (North Bay Island) - Tuesdays 
    •  Single Family Homes Bulk Trash collection (Treasure Island) - Tuesdays 
    •  Multi-Family Buildings Bulk Trash collection  (Treasure Island, Harbor Island) - last Wednesday of the month    

    Failure to follow these waste management codes will result in a fine or arrest.

     Escaping To Paradise: Discovering North Bay Village
