Celebrate the spirit of a diverse suburban hub set against South Dade's nurseries, neighborhoods, and everyday convenience as you settle into Naranja, a growing pocket rooted in tradition and reinvention.

Experience the charm and vibrancy of Naranja, a compact suburban center north of Homestead and south of Leisure City, that's known for its cultural blend, family-friendly vibe, and proximity to some of Miami-Dade's most unique attractions.

Unlike Magic City's famous beaches and nightlife, Naranja trades neon lights for community parks, high-rises for low-rise condos, and all-night clubs for local restaurants and weekend markets.

Here, days move at a steadier pace, with Redland's farmland just a short drive away and city conveniences still within reach.

It's safe to say Naranja captures much of what people look for in suburbiaaffordability, access, and a sense of community — while being a quick trip from Zoo Miami, Biscayne National Park, and the South Dade cultural corridor.

So, if you're preparing to move to Naranja or considering a fresh start outside the city's rush, this monumental step promises a balance of stability, opportunity, and suburban comfort you'll quickly come to love.

For now, the focus is on settling in smoothly and learning the essentials that make your transition into Naranja living a success!

Here are 7 things you need to do IMMEDIATELY when moving to Naranja.

(1)

Essentials First: Water, Lights, and Gas in Naranja

Are you stepping into your new life in Naranja without a clue on how to activate your water, lights, and gas?

Relax — setting up utilities in your new nest is way less of a headache than you think.

Actually, it's pretty straightforward once you know who to call.

Let's run through it, shall we?

For electricity, your go-to is the Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) website to open a new account or transfer your current one.

New to the service? You'll need your Social Security, Tax ID, or Driver's license, service address, and connection date.

Already an FPL customer? Provide your old service details, disconnection date, and reconnection information for Naranja, and you're good.

Please note that a deposit starting at $25 (plus setup fees) may be required.

Next is natural gas, which in Naranja is handled by Florida City Gas (FCG).

First, confirm service is available at your new address.

Those opening a new account must provide basic IDs and their move-in date, while existing customers only require their old and new addresses and the transfer date.

Deposits are based on your home's size, or about twice the average monthly bill, including a connection fee due upfront.

Finally, your water and sewer services will be through the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department.

New homeowners must create an account online, pay a $50 deposit for water, another $50 for sewer, and a $45 non-refundable connection fee.

If you're transferring service, ensure any balance is paid before they connect your utilities.

Logging On to Naranja: Internet & Cable Made Easy

Adjusting to suburban life can mean a few lifestyle tweaks, but let's be real — giving up fast internet and cable isn't one of them.

Luckily, Naranja has you covered when it comes to staying online and entertained.

Before your move, it's smart to have a provider in mind, but if you're still shopping, Comcast Xfinity and AT&T, two significant players, offer internet and cable bundles in the area.

Once you've chosen a package, you can apply for service online using your complete address and valid ID, or visit the nearest retail store.

Already a customer? Just request a service transfer once you've cleared any outstanding balance on your account.

Don't forget to ask if deposits, activation fees, or equipment rentals are due upfront; otherwise, those charges will show on your first bill.

Keys to the Suburbs: Your Florida License Checklist

Settling into your new Naranja home is one thing, but becoming a true Floridian only happens when you have a license to prove it.

Florida driver's license, that is.

And yes, it's more than just a keepsake — you're required to secure one within 30 days of establishing residency, and it's the fastest ID you can get that puts you legally behind the wheel on Florida roads.

If you're moving from another state or country, visit the nearest Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) or a local tax collector's office that handles licensing.

Bring your application and the proper paperwork based on your residency category:

•    U.S Citizen
•
Immigrant
•
Non-Immigrant
•
Canadian

The initial Florida Class E license, including a learner's permit, is $48.00, a commercial driver's license (Class A) is $75.00, and an ID Card fee is $25.00.

For a complete list of driver's license fees, click here.

If you already hold a driver's license from another state or country, you might be able to skip the Drug and Alcohol course, the Class E Knowledge exam, and the driving test — but you'll still need to pass the Vision and Hearing exams to qualify.

Don't forget that Florida law also requires you to title and register your vehicle within 10 days of residency once you've got insurance in place.

And if you already have a Florida license? Make sure to update your new Naranja address with the DMV right away — it's not just a formality, it keeps you on the right side of the law.

If "find a school" is at the top of your to-do list, you'll be glad to know that this South Dade suburban pocket has access to a network of schools, giving your kids a strong head start from Pre-K all the way to high school.

Public options nearby include William A. Chapman Elementary School, Air Base K-8 Center, and Miami Douglas Macarthur South Senior High School, each part of Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

Prefer private education? Look into Discovery Montessori Academy and Villa Preparatory Academy, both within a short drive of Naranja, which offer smaller class sizes and faith-based curricula.

Mark the Box, Make a Change: Naranja Voting 101

Want to make a difference in the place you now call home? Voting shapes Naranja's future and makes sure your voice truly counts.

So, if you're a U.S. Citizen, at least 18 years old, and meet Florida's eligibility requirements, don't wait — register to vote as soon as you can.

Applications can be submitted online through the Florida Department of State, by mail, or in person at the Miami-Dade County Elections Department or any Elections Branch office.

Bring the proper identification, and you're golden.

For most, a current ID with a photo and signature, like a Florida driver's license or U.S. passport, will suffice.

A Clean Slate: Living Green in Naranja

Just like the rest of Miami-Dade, Naranja is committed to creating a healthier, greener suburban environment — and as a new resident, the community expects you to do your part in keeping the community clean.

Since Naranja is an unincorporated area, solid waste and recycling services are managed by the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM), which means your pickup schedules, rules, and programs are countywide.

Here's what you can expect:

•    Residential Garbage Collection (twice a week)
 •   Recycling collection (every other week, using your county-issued blue cart)
•   "Bulky" trash collection (twice per calendar year at no additional charge, scheduled by request)

Exact service days depend on your zone and address, which you can confirm on the Miami-Dade Solid Waste Management website.

Remember — leaving items out too early, failing to recycle properly, or exceeding bulky waste limits can result in fees or code enforcement penalties.

To stay on top of schedules, download the Miami-Dade DSWM app, sign up for service reminders, or check the county website for updates.

It's the easiest way to keep your new neighborhood clean and avoid any unwelcome surprises.
