Set yourself up for a dynamic urban lifestyle with a CREATIVE twist as you dive into life in Midtown, an exciting up-and-coming district offering the PERFECT live-work-play environment in the heart of Metro Miami!

Sandwiched between Miami's two most iconic art districts is the tiny cosmopolitan community of Midtown, a six-block neighborhood north of Downtown Miami, west of Wynwood, east of Edgewater, and north of the chic Design District.

Revered as a highly rated tourist spot brimming with industrial-chic art galleries, cutting-edge skyscrapers, and world-class shopping (thanks to its revitalization in 2005),  it's not uncommon to find buzzing globetrotters all over Midtown year round, ranking with the likes of Design District, Wynwood, Downtown Miami, and Brickell in terms of attractions, luxury shopping, 24/7 entertainment, culture, and dining.

Yet, as famous as it is as a weekend destination, those are not the only draws Midtown offers.

Transcending its esteemed reputation as a holiday venue, Midtown slowly rises as one of Miami's signature live-work-play neighborhoods, thanks to its gold mine of towering apartments and condos promoting convenient living and commuting!

And if you're among the trendsetters, I'm pretty sure you dream of living in this stylish urban paradise, too!

So, give in to your wildest desires and immerse into Midtown's worldly charm and sophistication I promise that easing into this burgeoning community will be a BREEZE, especially if you follow our ULTIMATE GUIDE to the ESSENTIALS of moving to Midtown!

Here are 7 things you need to do IMMEDIATELY when moving to Midtown.

(1)

Adapting To A Creative Urban Lifestyle: Establishing The Core of Your Midtown Abode

While you may think you're ready to immerse into a fast-paced life in urban Miami, easing into your new Midtown home won't happen overnight.

At least, not until you get it up and running with utilities!

So, before you move to Midtown, see that you set up your electricity, water, and natural gas service first!

For electricity, create or log in to your existing account at the Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) website and apply for service at your new address.

New customers will need to submit their Social Security, Driver's License, Social Insurance, or Tax ID number, the new service address, and the connection date, and existing FPL customers only need to advise disconnection date (old address), re-connection date,  and complete service address — easy peasy!

A deposit of $25 (minimum) and other initial set-up fees may be charged upfront, whether you're a new or existing customer.

Meanwhile, if you use natural gas for cooking, hook up with providers like TECO Peoples Gas or Florida City Gas (FCG)

As soon as you've confirmed availability, submit the necessary IDs and connection date (new customer) or advise the disconnection date, the complete address of your new home, and your preferred service transfer date (existing customer).

Heads up — deposit fees may be based on your home's square footage or equal to twice the average monthly bill, and you may need to settle a connection fee before service starts.

Lastly, make it three for three by checking for water and sewer availability on the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer website.

Once confirmed, new customers must create an online account and deposit $50 for water, $50 for sewer, and a non-refundable $45 connection fee, and existing owners must also settle any outstanding balance before service transfer.

Surviving Technology 101: Jazzing Up Your Midtown Life With Internet And Cable

Do you want to avoid feeling overwhelmed with Midtown's rapidly progressing lifestyle?

Arm your home with the ESSENTIALS of technology, like reliable internet and cable services, to transition to a more modern way of life with EASE!

You can't achieve that cutting-edge home you've been dreaming of without crazy-fast internet, right?

So, don't think twice and start building the ULTIMATE Smart "kingdom" with the help of esteemed service providers like Comcast Xfinity and AT&T!

Once you've picked your provider and a bundle fitting your needs, apply for new service by submitting your complete address and proper IDs online or in person at the nearest store, or if you're an existing Comcast or AT&T customer, request a service transfer as soon as you settle any remaining balance on your account!

You'll also want to ask your provider if you need to settle deposits, activation/installation, and equipment rental fees upfront.

Otherwise, it may reflect on the first bill.

Celebrating A New Chapter Of Your Life: The Florida ID You Need To Make Your Midtown Dream OFFICIAL

A word of advice from a longtime Miami resident and professional — whatever you do, don't forget to get yourself a Florida driver's license!

Sure, you may already have your dream Midtown condo and are transitioning perfectly to your new lifestyle, but you won't be an official Floridian without one!

Yes, peeps, you read it right!

Aside from being one of the quickest IDs to secure, your Florida driver's license is a REQUIREMENT within 30 days of establishing residency, and your "All-Access" pass if you want to drive around Florida without breaking the law!

So, if you don't have one yet, drop by the nearest Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) or any local office offering driver's license services to submit the necessary documents for your Florida driver's license.

Click on the applicable residency status to know which documents to have on hand when you apply:

The initial Florida Class E license, including a learner's permit, is $48.00, a commercial driver's license (Class A) is $75.00, and an ID Card fee is $25.00.

For a complete list of driver's license fees, click here.

Applicants with a current or previous driver's license from another state, country, or jurisdiction need not take the Drug and Alcohol courses, Class E Knowledge exam, and Florida Driving tests.

However, the Vision and Hearing test is still a must!

Meanwhile, if you have an existing Florida driver's license, notify the DMV of your new address for an updated driver's license to avoid breaking the law.

Also, you'll have to get insurance to title and register your vehicle(s) within ten (10) days of establishing residency.

Education In Urbanity: A Pro-Tip On Finding The Best School Around Midtown

Still hunting for the best school for your child in Midtown?

While you won't find any within its perimeter, since Midtown itself is more known as a residential and commercial hub, you'll find a diverse collection of schools in Midtown's surrounding areas, including Downtown Miami, Wynwood, and Edgewater!

We're talking public, private, and charter schools like The Cushman School, iPrep Academy, Shadowlawn Elementary School, Mater Academy of International Studies, and more — for a "no-school" community like Midtown, the options keep coming, don't they?

So, for more information about the schools around Midtown, visit our blog, Schools Near Midtown, or visit the Miami-Dade County Public Schools website to check for public schools near your home!

Also, if your little one needs professional childcare while you're at work, check Daycares in Midtown to find out your options!

Standing Up For America: Becoming A Midtown Registered Voter

So, you're telling me you're still an unregistered voter in 2024?

Well, do yourself a favor and get a voter registration before you move to Midtown!

By doing so, you're earning your RIGHT within your new community while having a "say" in its future!

I don't know about you, but that's a win-win situation in my book!

So, if you're over 18 and a United States citizen who meets all the requirements, submit your application with the proper IDs and documents through the Florida Department of State or the Miami-Dade County Elections Department online, by mail, or in person at the Elections Department or any Elections Branch office!

Any current and valid identification with a photograph and signature (e.g., Florida Driver's License, United States passport, etc.) will be accepted!

Living Green In The City: Heeding Midtown's Call For Sustainability

Midtown, alongside thriving communities like Downtown Miami, Wynwood, Allapattah, Design District, and Edgewater, has always stood behind Magic City's call for sustainability despite being part of Miami's urban core.

In fact, while strolling around the tiny district, I'm sure you've noticed its spotless roads and avenues, clean surroundings, and well-maintained parks and green spaces.

And how did Midtown achieve this, you're probably wondering?

Through the effort of the local governance and the Midtown community, of course!

So, to partake in this worthy cause, familiarize yourself with Midtown's rules and regulations, including the community's established recycling and waste collection guidelines.

To give you an idea, here's the current solid waste, "bulky" garbage, and recyclables schedules:

  • Garbage & Trash collection (twice a week)
  • Free recycling collection every other week
  • "Bulky" trash collection (once a week)

Failure to follow these waste management codes will result in a $500 fine or arrest.

For more information about schedules and fees, visit the City of Miami Solid Waste Department website.
