Start a NEW chapter of natural beauty, luxury, and ADVENTURE in Aventura, one of Miami-Dade's sought-after "live-work-play" paradises synonymous with upscale amenities, high-end shopping, and unparalleled suburban living by the waterfront!

Spanning 3.2 square miles between Biscayne Boulevard and the Intracoastal Waterway is the luxurious waterfront suburb of Aventura, a meticulously planned community in northeast Miami-Dade, approximately 17 miles north of Miami City and 12 miles south of Fort Lauderdale.

Despite being one of Miami-Dade's newer communities, only incorporated in 1995, Aventura has been a Miami staple for its fine dining, endless entertainment, first-class education, and world-famous attractions, not just as a tourist destination but also as a choice residential enclave for luxury homebuyers looking for a premium blend of comfort, style, and recreation — all while being minutes from the excitement of the Metro!

We're talking about a more-than-ideal location near two major South Florida airports and two of the world's largest and most popular seaports, awe-inspiring tourist attractions, outdoor activities, shopping, dining, lush nature, and a diverse collection of prime real estate, from massive single-family homes to townhouses and lavish condos — with five-star amenities to boot!

So, if you're among those fortunate enough to move into this MECCA of waterfront suburban living, a big 'congratulatory' tap on the shoulder is in order!

It's time to enjoy this unforgettable ADVENTURE as you seamlessly transition to your new home and a new way of life in Aventura — and I'm here to get you STARTED!

Here are 7 things you need to do IMMEDIATELY when moving to Aventura.

     (1)

Prepping your Aventura Home: Setting Up The Essential Utilities

Amidst the thrill of moving into a new house is preparing the essentials for a SMOOTH transition — and that, of course, includes utilities like electricity, gas, and water!

To avoid hours of lining up and dealing with service delays, plan and get familiar with the requirements of setting up your home essentials in Aventura in advance!

For electricity, visit the  Florida Power & Light Company (FPL ) website and create or log into your existing account to request a new or transfer of service to your Aventura home.

New accounts will only need to submit a Social Security, Driver's License, Social Insurance, or Tax ID number (optional), the service address, and the date of connection, and existing customers are required to submit the date of disconnection at the old address, the date of re-connection, and the complete address of the new home.

You may have to pay a deposit of $25 (minimum) plus any other initial set-up fees.

Meanwhile, for natural gas services, apply at  TECO Peoples Gas  or  Florida City Gas (FCG)  online!

Upon confirming service availability, new account holders only need to submit proper IDs and date of connection to the new address, and existing customers will be asked the date of disconnection at the old address, the date of re-connection, and the complete address of the new home.

Deposits are based on your home's square footage, and a cash deposit equal to twice the average monthly bill and a connection fee may be required before starting your service.

To complete your essential "trio," check for water and sewer availability at your new address at the  Miami-Dade Water & Sewer  online!

Upon confirmation, new customers must create an account online and deposit $50 for water, $50 for sewer, and a non-refundable $45 connection fee, and existing accounts must have zero outstanding balance before transferring the service.

     (2)

Staying "Connected": How To Apply For Cable and Internet Services in Aventura

Avoid losing touch with your extended family or missing an episode of your current TV fave by applying for cable and internet services before your big Aventura move!

To get started, check out the offerings from  Comcast Xfinity  and  AT&T  and submit a new application for your cable and internet online or in person at the nearest store in your area — your complete address and supporting documents are all you need to get started!

Meanwhile, existing customers can have their service transferred without any hassle — be sure to pay any remaining balance on your account and call your provider to request a transfer!

You may need to settle deposits, activation/installation, and equipment rental fees upon activation, or it may reflect on your first bill.

     (3)

Getting Around Aventura: The First Step To A Florida Driver's License

Are you moving to Aventura from a different state or country?

Applying for a valid Florida driver's license is ESSENTIAL within 30 days of establishing residency, especially if you want to peruse the Florida roads without breaking the law!

To get started, submit your application at the nearest  Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV)  or any local office offering driver's license services.

Applicants with current or previous driver's licenses from another state, country, or jurisdiction may be eligible to skip the mandatory Drug and Alcohol course, Class E Knowledge exam, and the Florida Driving test but will still need to pass the Vision and Hearing tests.

Aside from securing a Florida driver's license, you'll also have to get insurance to title and register your vehicle(s) within ten (10) days of establishing residency.

For more information, click on the applicable residency status to know which documents to have on hand when you apply:

    •  U.S Citizen
    • Immigrant
    • Non-Immigrant
    •  Canadian

For a complete list of driver's license fees,  click here.

Meanwhile, local Floridians moving to Aventura still need to notify the DMV or a similar local department of their new address, as they will need to be issued a new license with their updated information.

     (4)

Holding The "Reigns" Of Your Future: Exercising Your Right To Vote in Aventura

Help shape the future of Aventura, Miami, and the whole country by exercising your right to VOTE!

If you are over the age of 18 and are a United States citizen who meets all the requirements and have NOT yet secured a Voter's Registration, be sure to apply to the  Florida Department of State  or the  Miami-Dade County Elections Department  online, by mail, or in person at the Elections Department or any Elections Branch office!

You will be asked to present or submit a current and valid form of identification with a photograph and signature (e.g. Florida Driver's License, United States passport, etc.), together with your application.

For more information on other legal forms of identification and supplementary requirements,  click here.

     (6)

Keeping It Clean and Pristine: The "Do's" and "Don't's" of Waste Management in Aventura

Be ready to embrace Aventura's commitment to cleanliness and sustainability by familiarizing yourself with local recycling and waste collection rules and schedules through the  City of Aventura - Public Works!

Aventura, serviced by the  City of Miami Solid Waste Department , schedules residential garbage collection twice a week, free recycling collection every other week, and "bulky" trash collection once a week.

Anyone violating waste management codes, including dumping garbage on the streets, vacant lots, or improper disposal, will be charged a $500 fine or an arrest — or both!

Aventura also prohibits  illicit discharges  to ensure the cleanliness of its lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands, and groundwater.

Be a part of the movement by sweeping any dirt, grass clippings, and fertilizer back into your lawn, avoid dumping motor oil, pet waste, and dirty water down the storm drain, and take hazardous waste to a local collection event!

Always be informed — join the community in keeping Aventura PRISTINE, CLEAN, and GREEN!
