Explore Homestead
Let's all put a spotlight on Homestead, an oasis of small-town charm and the second oldest municipality, behind Miami, in Miami-Dade County!
Located about 30 minutes southwest of Miami, the city lies between Biscayne National Park to the east and Everglades National Park to the west.
It is one of the principal cities of Miami and a major agricultural area.
Homestead is also the 40th largest city in Florida and the 531st largest city in the US.
It is home to around 70,061 residents as of the latest US Census.
Posing as a complete polar opposite to its neighboring community, Homestead offers locals and tourists a straightforward suburban atmosphere, composed of a welcoming town center, family-owned shops and restaurants, and an enticing introduction to the wealth of natural beauty.
Through the years, the city established its reputation as an important agricultural-trading center.
It also serves as the service center for nearby Homestead Air Force Base, the headquarters for Everglades National Park (west and south of the city), and the gateway to the Florida Keys.
Meanwhile, its downtown section was named a Florida Main Street Community and is home to seven properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places, unique shops, art galleries, authentic Mexican and specialty restaurants, and the Homestead Antique Federation.
Due to its proximity to two national parks, Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park, a visit to Homestead equates to countless nature-tripping opportunities and an abundance of recreational activities.
The city also has its fair share of historical landmarks and tourists attractions, with Coral Castle taking the top spot.
The unique outdoor attraction is one man's unique monument to his "sweet 16" girlfriend, who broke their engagement.
Ed Leedskalnin spent 20 years building the castle using more than 1,100 tons of coral rock-- without any assistance, if I may add!
Another famous tourist spot is Knaus Berry Farm, a vast strawberry farm-raised by brothers Ray and Russell Knaus in 1956.
The farm is one of South Florida's most well-known family farms and has been around for more than half a century.
The municipal parks in the area? I'm not just counting one or two-- Homestead's got a dozen of them!
Each park offers various amenities and safe and nurturing recreational, educational and cultural activities!
An example of this is Homestead Bayfront Park, offering visitors a variety of outdoor recreation options perfect for those looking to spend a little quality time outside soaking up that famous Florida sunshine.
Fishing, sunbathing, and boating are the park's popular activities, and it features a boat ramp for those looking to launch their boats around the area.
Oh, and the city's got an animal rescue center, too!
Everglades Outpost Wildlife Rescue is a rescue center that receives wild animals that have been abandoned, neglected, or injured, many of which have been confiscated from illegal or abusive situations.
Visitors can book behind-the-scenes tours by appointment, and educational outreaches include field trips and shows about Florida wildlife.
Let's not forget that Homestead is just a 30-minute drive from Miami AND a stone's throw away from the Keys, so running out of things to do while you're here shouldn't be an issue.
Yeah, I think it's safe to say this suburb's far from being uneventful-- well, to say the least.

While living in Homestead may be far from the posh and glitzy Miami lifestyle-- which may or may not be mainly composed of shopping, nightlife, and more shopping-- residents surely won't feel lacking.
The city boasts diversity in cultures and ethnicities, where neighbors take pride in helping one other, whether it's sharing food, having a quick chit-chat, or being there for someone in need.
In fact, Homestead has everything to be loved about suburbia-- family-friendly neighborhoods, many schools to choose from (charter, public, private), lots of community parks, and shopping centers nearby.
One can say it has a vibrancy of its own kind, one that focuses on community and the natural beauty of Florida.
And let's not get started on its perfect distance to the Keys and bustling Miami!
Indeed, its convenience can't be beaten!
Imagine being able to choose between spending the weekend at the beach or having a fun and wild night out with the gang?
Yeah, it's pretty smacked right in the middle of everything, to say the least!
Another thing is, the city is continuously growing and becoming more commercial, which means that more developments are coming shortly!
How it can be better than it already is will always leave me lost for words!
And to think that the best is still yet to come?
Pretty amazing, wouldn't you agree?
Offering the ideal mix of nature and creature comforts, Homestead is a community built for families and people looking for affordable living.
It boasts a calm and serene atmosphere-- but not without plentiful opportunities to work and play-- promoting the perfect formula for livability.
Yes, folks, this is Homestead, an emerging rural neighborhood that showcases the greener side of Florida.
Indeed, one of the best places to live in Miami-Dade County!
